Apple AirPlay allows you to wirelessly stream videos from your iPhone, iPad and MacBook to an Apple TV box (or a smart tv that supports Apple TV), provided you’re connected to the same wifi. This is incredibly handy when you want to play the video on the tv instead of your device. Here is a quick guide on using Airplay to stream videos from your iPhone, iPad and MacBook.

Use AirPlay on your iPhone/iPad

These instructions apply to the iPhone, but due to the similarities on the iPad it is grouped here.
The main difference between these 2 depends on what app you are using to play the video from.
To start airplay, look for a rectangle with an arrow pointing up at the bottom. This will show either on the video or within a video player app.
Once you’ve located it, tap on the symbol. You will be presented with options to stream the video to.
In case you don’t see the airplay button, you will need to select the apps options for sharing/playing content on a different device, then tap on airplay.
Your TV might show a code. If so, enter that code into your devices screen and tap on ok.
Now you’re streaming your video to your TV via AirPlay.
To stop the airplay stream, , open up the AirPlay window in the same way you accessed it above (again, this will differ depending on the app) and tap “iPhone/iPad”on the list of devices. This will return your feed from the TV back to your device .

Use Airplay on your Mac

Open up the video to stream to your TV.
Click on the AirPlay button. It’s often located in the bottom right corner of the video.
Select the device you’d like to stream your video to from the drop-down options.
Your Mac may ask you for the code displayed on your TV. Enter it into the pop-up window.
When you want to stop casting, click on the same AirPlay button you clicked on earlier to start AirPlay. Then click “Turn off AirPlay” from the drop-down menu.
