How to Improve your Home Wi-Fi
/Have you started to notice that your wifi is running slow? If so, there are plenty of options you can consider to make improvements to your home Wi-Fi. These tips below should help you improve your home Wi-Fi.
Test your Internet Speed
Internet speed is crucial to check. You can test your internet speed by heading to several websites such as fast.com, Speedtest or use a relevant app to measure your wifi speed. It’s also worth measuring the speed in different rooms of your house, and note which sections are particularly slow.
Check to see if your on the Right Network
It might sound silly, but it easily happens. Make sure that your device is connected to the correct network. Devices sometimes will switch to a different wifi network without notice. It only takes a second, so it’s worth doing a quick check.
Move your Wireless Router
If the speed test you did shows dead spots (Slow speed room) in your home, try moving your wireless router. It’s not at all unusual for a Wi-Fi router to be stuck in the corner of a house or apartment, near the wall where service enters your home. That’s the worst place for it. Wi-Fi is radio; radios have limited range and sometimes have trouble getting through walls. If it’s practical, try moving your router to a more central location by running an Ethernet cable from the wall.
Consider changing your Internet plan
As data requirements keep going up, it can drain more data than your used to. Maybe you started watching 4K Netflix, or are starting to have a lot more video conferences. It all adds up. You might be on an older plan and it might time to consider upgrading for more internet data.
Perhaps a Wi-Fi Extender
If moving the router & changing plan didn’t work, you might want to consider a Wi-Fi extender, as this will allow the wifi to travel further within your household.
