Being online at age 90 helped this man feel less lonely
This article is a little old now, written in The Guardian back in 2013. It is still, however, a fantastic example of how being connected to the internet, and in turn modern society, can make a massive difference later in life. Harry Leslie Smith is a survivor of the Great Depression, a second world war RAF veteran and an activist for the poor and for the preservation of social democracy. Harry talks about his initial difficulties in becoming computer literate and highlights the opportunities that being online has given him. “Being engaged online has given me the chance to interact and share my life stories with people from different lands and cultures. It has let me experience new ideas and kept me in close contact with old friends and family, now scattered across the globe.”
