How to use Finder
If your using a MacBook, you might have heard of “Finder”, but what exactly is Finder and how can you get the most out of it? We’re going to explain Finder for you.
Finder is your Home for Files
Finder is the app used to interact with all of your files throughout your MacBook. Similar to the file explorer on Window PC, Finder let’s you locate your files. You can also copy, paste, move files across your computer including the ability to create folders. You’ll also have the option to delete files.
What is a File?
A file is an item that exists on your MacBook. This can be one of a multitude of items, such as a document (word, excel, PowerPoint), an item you’ve downloaded from the internet (pdf), photos, videos, applications, and so on.
What’s a Folder?
A folder allows you to group files together, adding a layer of organisation to your computer, similar to a library.
How to use Finder
Finder is a dedicated app on your MacBook. This app can be found on the MacBook dock (the bar where your main apps are stored). The app looks like a smiling blue face. Click the app to open Finder.
Once Finder is open, you’ll be brought to the Finder window, which will allow you to browse and view all of your files. Double click a file to open, or simply click on a folder to view the contents. You will notice on the left hand side that there is a sidebar. This contains shortcuts that you can use to quickly navigate through Finder (such as documents and photos) to find the folder/file your after.
In the upper right corner, you will see a search button, which looks like a magnifying glass. If you click on the button, you can search your MacBook for the file you are after, (this is done by typing into the search), you’ll find the file without having to go through various folders.
Your also able to have multiple Finder windows open. This is quite handy when you want to move files from one folder to another. You can open another window by right- clicking the Finder app - new window.
