Microsoft Teams is an excellent service for sharing, storing and collaborating files. You might have noticed that there isn’t a recycle bin, so should you accidentally delete a file, how do you recover it? Here is how.

For each new team set up in Microsoft teams, a SharePoint site is created in the background. Each channel has a unique folder in the document library within the SharePoint site.

When a file is deleted from Teams, you will be able to find a backup copy in the SharePoint site.

You can access the SharePoint site by opening Files tab within Microsoft Teams, then select open in SharePoint. You may need to click on the 3 dot menu to view the options.

Once SharePoint has opened (you may need to sign in with your Microsoft details first) you can see any file that has been deleted by clicking on the recycle bin.

To restore the file, tick the checkbox for the item, then click on restore

Now click “Documents,” and the folder that matches the channel that the file came from. This will restore the document back to its original location in Microsoft Teams.
