When the update becomes available, as long as your device is able to use iOS 8, you should be perfectly fine to update to iOS 9. If you’re not sure, you can quickly check your iOS version through the Settings, by clicking on General, then About.
It is also a good idea to back up your device through iTunes or iCloud, just in case there are any potential bugs on launch day.
As for installing the update, you should be able to do this through iTunes or on your device.
